1
Choose entity: Section 8 Company
For scale + credibility + future CSR funding, Section 8 is the modern default. Trust and Society have place but face donor friction.
2
File incorporation via SPICe+
Get DSC, DIN, name approval, then file SPICe+ form. Use Vakilsearch or IndiaFilings — Rs 12-20K all-in.
3
Apply for PAN + TAN + bank account
Bundled with SPICe+. Open a current account at SBI, Canara, or any nationalized bank — donor-friendly more than private banks for NGOs.
4
File 12A application within 30 days
Form 10A on income tax portal. Provisional 12A in 1-2 months, permanent after 3 years of operation.
5
Apply for 80G after 12A
Form 10A again — 80G requires 12A first. Approval in 4-8 months. Without 80G, donations don't tax-deduct.
6
Register on Darpan + apply CSR-1
Niti Aayog Darpan registration is free. CSR-1 unlocks corporate CSR funds — needs 3 years existence + 12A/80G.
