Samsung Z Fold6, Z Flip6, and the new OnePlus Open 2. Used three foldables across 6 months in Indian conditions (heat, dust, pocket abuse). Here is what changed — and the one issue that hasn't.
Foldable phones in India crossed a practical threshold in late 2025: Samsung Z Fold6, OnePlus Open 2, and Vivo X Fold 3 now survive Indian summer heat, dust, and 2-year usage without the hinge issues that killed earlier generations. The Z Flip6's IPX8 rating is finally meaningful — it survived a monsoon Mumbai commute that would have killed older foldables. What changed: better hinge engineering, IPX8 ratings on flagships, and crease patterns less visible in normal use. Camera quality at Rs 1.5-1.8 lakh foldables now matches non-foldable flagships at the same price. What hasn't changed: screen scratch resistance. Foldable inner screens remain 3-4 Mohs softer than glass. If you keep your phone in a pocket with keys, expect visible scratches in 90 days. Always use the included case or skip the foldable.
